Surbhi Jyoti : my father is in Punjab, the search is over!
We chat with Surbhi Jyoti aka Qubool Hai's Zoya about her journey so far!
Q. How has it been being Zoya?
a. I am very happy. It’s a wonderful feeling to play the lead in a show which is not like any other daily soap. Erine Qubool Hai is the only show on television I believe which has a very different story. It’s not about wearing sarees or heavy jewellery and putting glycerine in the eye for that added rona dhona. Our drama in the show I feel is very different. After Heena, I think it’s Qubool Hai only that’s enjoyed such popularity.
Q. How did you bag the role of Zoya in the first place?
a. I actually have a theatre background. My first theatre act had a Muslim backdrop too. For Qubool Hai then I really don’t know where they saw my pictures or whatever but I was called in for a screen test. I could carry off the Muslim dialect well and eventually everything worked out; so yes, here I am.
Q. What does your family have to say about your growing popularity?
a. Of course, they like all of it. You won’t believe but my father who is in Punjab keeps joking about my show track with my father. He always asks me when I’ll find my father on screen. In fact, he keeps telling me to just tell the creative heads that my father is in Punjab, the search is over! (Laughs)
Q. Has the family been supportive, then?
a. Oh yes definitely. Without my family I couldn’t have done any of this. Without family’s support, landing in the industry and sustaining self is very hard. My family always supported my decision and have always been there for me. I am very grateful. I feel blessed.
Q. How similar or different is Zoya to Surbhi?
a. We are both very same and different at the same time. Zoya, like Surbhi, is very bubbly, talkative and loves to have fun. The difference I think is that Zoya is very messy! I cannot tolerate mess. Also, Zoya loves pizzas and junk food, I am not fan.
Q. How is it working with Karan Singh Grover?
a. Working with Karan is lots of fun. We share a good relationship. I must admit though that before Qubool Hai I didn’t know of his immense popularity it’s only now that I realize he’s a big star. So yes, lots of good energy on set and as we all know, he is a fabulous actor.
