Europe, June 18: The Haqqani network, a militant group based in the Afghanistan Pakistan border area, has become one of the biggest threats to American war efforts in Afghanistan. The outfit is backing the Taliban to carry out major attacks on the camps of U.S. led NATO forces and other high security areas in Afghanistan. On June 1, 2012, the insurgents drove a truck with explosives into the outer security check post of Forward Operating Base Salerno, which is run by the U.S. military. The attempt was foiled by the security persons, but the insurgents killed 6 civilians and 30 were wounded.
